FLOW
Moss Public Dental Clinic is the third in a series of dental clinics in Østfold that I have created art projects for. The dental clinics in Mysen and Askim each had their own specific themes they wanted to highlight, which Moss dental clinic chose not to have. On the other hand, it was desirable that the artistic expression reflected something of the place’s industrial history and location at the outlet of the Moss River into the fjord. The dental clinic is located in Moss’ old industrial area Verket, where there has been both a steel mill and a cellulose factory, and which is now in full transformation and gentrification.
The starting point for the art project “Flow” are single and multiple exposed analogue photographs of various oil and water pipes from the Statfjord C oil platform in the North Sea. The photographs are digitized, and then colour inverted and stretched in length. This process, combined with extreme magnification, gives the images an extra quality; a non-figurative, translucent and at the same time both metallic and a textile watercolour expression. The long images can give different associations to timber, water reflections, passing trains and diffuse horizon lines. The extreme perspectives give a sense of direction and movement around the corners, – as if something is in rapid motion; – flow.
